Beware of fake pastors, prayer houses during pregnancy – Gynecologist advises women

A gynecologist, Dr Ado Zakari, on Friday advised pregnant women to desist from patronizing prayer houses for delivery to avoid complications.
Zakari, also the Director, Public Health, Kaduna State Ministry of Health and Human Services, gave this advice in a telephone interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Abuja.
The medical expert decried the increasing cases of pregnant women who patronised prayer houses and faith- based centres to assist them during deliveries.
He said this usually resulted into complications such as the Vesicovaginal Fistula (VVF), excessive bleeding and death.
“ There is an increasing belief in our country that is taking over the minds of some pregnant women that it is better to deliver in prayer houses or some faith-based centres, where a pastor will pray for you and you deliver there.
“ This mindset has brought a lot of complication to pregnant women because these persons do not have any technical knowledge about delivery process and what to do when the labour is prolong or obstructed.
“So most of the pregnant women eventually end up having complications such as fistula, bleeding and may even cause damage to some of their organs and even death, ’he said.
Zakari, therefore, stressed the need for pregnant women to register at government approved hospitals for ante-natal care to ensure safe delivery.
They should discountenance delivering at home or prayer houses with the assistance of unqualified persons, he said.
According to him, deliveries in most government hospitals or centres are usually free or a small token is charged for some drugs.
Meanwhile, Mrs Grace Timothy, a housewife told NAN that she was advised by some of her relatives and friends to patronise a prayer house to enable her conceive after 12 years of marriage without a child.
Timothy said that she was able to conceive a child, but was advised by the pastor at the prayer house not to visit any medical institution for her ante-natal or scan to show the condition of her child.
“ I almost lost my life when labour started and I was rushed to the prayer house for delivery and it got to a point that I was bleeding extensively, and had to be rushed to the hospital, but I lost the baby.’’
She expressed regrets for her action, advising other women to always seek medical assistance from trained persons to enable them have a safe and uncomplicated delivery.
“ It is good to pray, but there is also the need for one to seek medical help when the need arises from trained persons. Because God will also use those trained nurses and doctors to ensure a hitch-free delivery,’’ she said.

True confession: HELP! Mum checks my virginity status every month

Good morning editor.
I am a girl of 19 years. I just got admitted into one of the private universities in North Central studying Banking and Finance.
My parents broke up when I was barely 3 years so I didn’t really spend much time with my dad, who is already married to another woman overseas.
My mum is so protective that whenever she sees me standing with a male friend she would want to beat the hell out of me.
He told me that my dad used sugar-coated mouth to deceive her and put her in the family way, which made her to drop out from school.
She warned me never to have anything to do with a man till I’m married.
Inasmuch as I buy into her counsel, I am tired of this constant embarrassment and harassment from her each time she sees me talking to any guy.

Lawyer narrates how presumed 7-year-old boy was lynched in Lagos

As controversies continue to trail the alleged gruesome murder of a 7-year-old boy for allegedly stealing garri in Lagos, Kingsley Ughe, General Counsel for Joint Action Aids has given his own account of the luciferous incident.
The legal practitioner, claimed the victim and his gang tried to dispossess a woman of her belongings.
According to Ughe in a Facebook post titled, ‘A Thief and A Frenzied Mob Baying for Blood,’ the victim was a member of a gang of notorious thieves and not a seven-year-old boy, as widely claimed in the media..
He explained that the young man met his waterloo after his gang tried to rob a woman of her belongings, including an Infinix Note 2 phone, at Augustine Onwualu street, Orile Iganmu, Lagos last Saturday.
Read Ughe’s account below
The true account of the young man lynched and summarily burnt to death at Orile Iganmu last Saturday speaks of the uncertainty and brevity of human life in Nigeria. It was Saturday, the 11th day of November 2016. The venue of this macabre killing orgy was at Augustine Onwualu Street, Orile Iganmu, Lagos.
A woman, (name withheld) was walking along the ever busy road of Augustine Onwualu street, Orile Iganmu. She had an Infinix Hotnote 2 handset with which she was making telephone calls in high pitched voice, frantically gesticulating in the process. Close by, on the same street were a gang of 4 notorious thieves, well known in the area for their dare devilry and viciousness. They were there, waiting, prowling and surveying the entire scenery for a vulnerable victim to rob and dispossessed of their valuables as they often do in the past. And successfully too.
“The woman approached. Still talking on the phone and gesticulating with her free arm. She was immediately spotted by the very perceptive eyes of this criminal gang. A brief conference amongst them, she was adjudged a soft target. There was no need for further plans or careful surveillance. After all they had done this successfully in the past. More so, their sheer ferocity makes them a sort of feared mobster in the local vicinity. But it turned out to be a miscalculation. And costly one at that!

MMM: CBN denies approving scheme

The Central Bank of Nigeria, CBN, has again asked Nigerians to dismiss reports that it has approved the operation of Russian ponzi scheme, The Mavrodi Mondial Movement, otherwise known as MMM.
The movement is a scheme that assures up to 30% interest of money invested.
A new report circulating online claimed that participants are challenging Nigerian authorities for “poking their nose into the affairs of well meaning foreigners that have come to rescue them from money issues.”
It claimed that, “CBN governor has allayed the fears of skeptical Nigerians and disclosed that thorough checks carried out on the organisation shows that it is a legitimate investment facility.
It also claimed that “A top official at the Ministry of Finance said even the federal government has invested the sum of N100b in MMM so that the interest of N30b can be reinvested in capital projects across the nation.”
Reacting, Isaac Okorafor, Acting Director, CBN Corporate Communications, told DAILY POST on Thursday that, “There’s nothing like that.”
“Nigerians should ignore any report claiming the we approved financial institutions that don’t even exist.”
Okorafor added: “I repeat, Nigerians should ignore questionable schemes”.
Recall that the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission early in the week told DAILY POST that it was carrying out surveillance on the MMM investment scheme

NYSC confirms 2016 Batch B Stream II will commence orientation in January 2017

The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), has assured university graduates and members of the public, that it has made necessary arrangements to ensure eligible prospective corps members, are mobilized in the next service year.
Director General of the NYSC, Brigadier-General Sule Kazaure, made this known in Abuja on Wednesday, during a media parley organized for editors and reporters from media houses.
Stream I of the next batch for NYSC mobilisation, which is the 2016 Batch ‘B’, will commence orientation exercise on November. 24
The 2016 Batch ‘B’ stream II are expected to commence orientation in January 2017.
Kazaure revealed that the scheme can only cater for 86,000 out of the 170,000 eligible for the next service year, but will make sure the rest partake.
“In the 2016 budget, provision was made for the mobilisation of a total of 210,000 corps members. However, the figure for both 2016 Batch ‘A’ and Batch ‘B’ has more than doubled the original projection,” he said.
“Like we did before the 2016 Batch ‘A’ orientation course, we have appealed to government for special intervention grant to mop up excess of this figure.
“So far, we have received the green light from the relevant government agencies to prepare for the mobilisation of all qualified prospective corps members.
“However, the limited cumulative capacity of the orientation camps nationwide necessitates a second stream orientation course for the 2016 Batch ‘B’ which is planned for January 2017.”
Kazaure also thanked President Muhammadu Buhari and some state governors, for their intervention in strengthening the operations of the NYSC.

Ex-Miss Anambra Beauty Queen Opens Up On Sex Scandal

Since the story of the sex video involving former Miss Anambra, Chidinma Okeke, broke a few weeks ago, several groups and individuals have come forward with different versions of what transpired between the embattled 20-year-old beauty queen and the organisers of the pageant.
The former beauty queen was seen in a shocking x-rated video with a lesbian partner. Surprisingly, the video was released on October 11, 2016, a few days before the expiration of her tenure originally billed for October 28, 2016.
Every day across the state since the video hit the streets, different versions of what led to the scandal are churned out by the actors, leaving the people confused and unsure of what to believe.
Since the scandal broke, Miss Chidinma Okeke, who won the Miss Anambra beauty pageant, organised by the Anambra Broadcasting Service (ABS), has remained incommunicado, choosing to go into hiding over alleged threats to her life. She has also remained silent, leaving her lawyer to do most of the talking.
While the father, Sir Jeremiah Okeke, had claimed in recent reports that his daughter had been handed over to a relation for safety, some others claimed that the ex-beauty queen had relocated abroad.
But after weeks of keeping quiet, Miss Okeke has finally broken her silence. In an exclusive interview with The Nation, she debunked claims that she threatened to commit suicide, adding that there was never a time such thought came to her mind.
She also said her life might no longer be in danger, adding that her traducers were no longer threatening her life, and maintaining that those who were after her life had stopped contacting her.
