Bacha bazi: Afghan practice of child sex slavery

Afghanistan is set to criminalise the practice of “bacha bazi”, sexual exploitation of boys, with a slew of stringent punishments laid out for the first time in a revised penal code.
The move comes after an AFP report last year found the Taliban are exploiting the centuries-old practice, one of the most egregious violations of human rights in the country, to mount deadly insider attacks in the volatile south.
Here are some key answers about bacha bazi.
What is it?
Powerful warlords, commanders, politicians and other members of the elite often keep “bachas” as a symbol of authority and affluence.
Bachas, sometimes dressed as women, are often sexually exploited. They can also be used as dancers at private parties.
Bacha bazi is not widely seen as homosexual behaviour — popularly demonised as a deviant sexual act, prohibited in Islam — and is largely accepted as a cultural practice.
How common is it?
“Women are for child-rearing, boys are for pleasure” is a common saying across many parts of Afghanistan.

Big Brother Naija: Gifty makes U-turn, begs Banky W, Falz

A contestant, Gifty, who was Sunday evicted from the ongoing Big Brother Nigeria Reality Show, has apologized to Nigerians for saying she doesn’t know popular Nigerian music stars, Banky W and Falz.
The Nigerian celebrities had visited the housemates in South Africa and during her diary session, Gifty caused a stir when she said she does not know Banky W and did not feel his presence.
When Big Brother asked her about how she felt about the presence of Banky in the house, Gifty, ‘in her exact words’ had said, “BankyW is proud. He was acting like he was paid to come and impress.”
Nigerians had dragged her to the mud and had reportedly  launched campaign for her eviction.
Gifty has, however, explained why she made the comment.
On her Instagram account @officialgiftypowers, she wrote: “Good evening everyone…first of all i was misunderstood when I said I don’t know Banky, actually what I meant was I’ve never met him in person.
“Banky is an amazing singer no doubt. And right now i want to use this platform to apologize for all the wrong words I said about him.
“It’s just a game, we say/do things for specific reasons + i was emotional unstable cos i was up for possible eviction.

Wife seeks divorce because husband refuses to ejaculate inside her

A 36-year-old seamstress, Sherifat Adetunji, on Friday pleaded at a Lagos Island Customary Court that her marriage should be dissolved on ground that her husband was longer ejaculating inside her during sex.
The mother of two said that her 10-year-old marriage was blissful until five years ago when things started changing.
She lamented that her husband could go a year or more without making love to her and that when he did he would not ejaculate inside her.
“My husband has been starving me sexually, sometimes he will not touch me for a whole year and when he did, he would not release inside me.
“I have complained severally about my dissatisfaction over his attitude towards our sexual life, but has refused to change,” she said.
She told the court that her husband once brought a strange man into their house to perform some rituals in the middle of the night and since then she started emaciating.

My wife constantly beats me – Husband begs court for divorce

An Ibadan based travel agent, Mr Oluwatimilehin Oyewole, on Friday begged a Mapo Customary Court in Ibadan to dissolve his four-year-old marriage, to save him from constant beating by his wife.
Oluwatimilehin had in a petition to the court said that his wife, Kehinde usually slaps or mishandle him anytime they had disagreement.
“My lord, anytime I complain about Kehinde’s waywardness and lack of respect for me, she beats or attacks me with any dangerous thing within her reach.
“Sometimes, Kehinde freely pulls my manhood as part of her attack on me.
“Most of the time, I run out of the house for her even in the midnight.
“However, it is not that she is more powerful than I am, but I am merely trying to avert bloodshed or casualty.
