Governors of Jigawa and Niger states, Alhaji Sule Lamido and Babangida Aliyu, both of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) on Thursday told the President-elect, General Muhammadu Buhari, to stop making excuses but to fulfill his campaign promises to Nigerians.
The two spoke at the commissioning of the ultra-modern, multi-billion naira Shiroro Bridge in Shiroro Local Government Area of Jigawa. According to them, Nigerians will hold Buhari and the All Progressive Congress (APC) accountable whether the economy is okay or not.
According to Lamido, “You (Buhari) must fulfill your promises, because there was no condition given on how to do it. Whether the economy is favourable or not, do not give us any excuse.
“…We will not tolerate any excuses because when you were asking for votes and making promises, there were no conditions given.”
In apparent reference to decampees from the PDP to the APC, Aliyu declared:
“A party of evil men is a party that raised them. Whatever they are, they owe it all to the PDP because PDP, one way or the other, brought almost all of them into politics. It is about time for them to reflect, because Nigerians will definitely hold them accountable.
“They try to turn tribe against tribe, brother against brother. They try to break and distort Nigeria’s harmony raising false hopes. They must fulfill all their promises.”
Lamido on his part said that throughout the APC’s campaign, the party never raised any developmental issues but was busy harping on the troubles of the nation which include Boko Haram, corruption and other security issues.
They also lambasted the Adamu Muazu-led National Working Committee (NWC) of the PPDP), saying Muazu must throw in the towel and accept the blame for leading the party to a ‘disastrous defeat’ in the general election.
According to Aliyu, “How could you lead a party to a disastrous defeat and you are still thinking of some ideas. And it is now you are asking people or blaming people that you have not been given chance and that the money of the campaign was not with you.
“Why didn’t you tell us before the elections? Why do you have to wait until you are defeated? Because, assuming that we had won, you would have taken the credit for the winning. So take the blame for the loss.”
Speaking in a similar vein, Lamido said, “It is no time for blame game. It is time to think and reflect on how to reposition PDP. The party is a party of national interest and unity. We should all accept that we made mistakes and find ways to correct them in the future.”
On the alleged plan by the duo to form a new party, Lamido, who was Special guest of Honour, said: “We have both agreed not to leave the PDP. We dey kankpe for PDP, we dey shelele for PDP.”
“PDP has honoured and dignified me, and I am not leaving it for tenants. I and Aliyu are from home background, while others are from mere house background. We are well groomed right from our homes and we will not leave the party for anyone.”
Prominent traditional rulers, politicians and people from all walks of life attended the epochal event, including the new Speaker of Niger State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Isah kawu.
