Gov Ahmed, PDP counterpart trade claims over achievements

ILORIN-Kwara State Governor, Alhaji Abdulfatah Ahmed and his main opponent in the February 2015 gubernatorial elections,Senator Simeon Ajibola of the Peoples Democratic Party are now trading claims over the achievements of the latter as published in some national dailies.Governor Abdulfatah Ahmed on wednesday advised his counterpart in the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) candidate to stop telling lies in a desperate attempt to show he has performed as the Senator representing Kwara South.This is contained in a statement issued by the Senior Special Assistant to the governor on Media and Communications, Dr Muideen Akorede,made available to journalists in Ilorin on Wednesday.The governor’s spokesman who responded to claims by Senator Ajibola that he contributed money towards projects like Baruten Road, the Ilorin Cargo Terminal and the International Vocational Centre, Ajase Ipo, dismissed the assertion as blatant lies, stressing that the said projects were funded from FederalAllocation, internal sources and bank loans.Akorede, challenged the Senator to provide prove of his financial contribution to the projects in question, which he insisted were funded by the state government.Governor Ahmed, the statement noted expressed disappointment that Senator Ajibola displayed ignorance about how state government projects are funded despite aspiring to govern the state.On the issue of a 2km road in Isapa which Ajibola claimed to have executed, Governor Ahmed accused his opponent of being economical with the truth for failing to reveal that the state government also spent over N200m on the said road at the Senator’s request.Alhaji Ahmed further challenged Senator Ajibola to reveal how many federal government projects he has attracted to Kwara State and which bills he has sponsored in the Senate stressing that the Federal Government’s Ajase Ipo to Erin Ile Road remains in serious disrepair despite being a major road in Kwara South which Ajibola represents in the Senate.On the issue of rehabilitated schools, Governor Ahmed stated that his administration has rehabilitated 400 blocks of classrooms at Primary and Secondary levels across the state, including the School for Special Needs, Ilorin, GSS Agbamu, GSS Omode, GSS, Afon, GHS Ilorin, Mount Carmel, Ilorin, and CSS Lade, to mention a few.
