Ife youths protest planned privatisation of NACETEM

Youths from Ife, in Osun State under the aegis of Ife Youth Vanguard have rejected the plan by the Federal Government to privatise the National Centre for Technology Management located at the Obafemi Awolowo University campus in Ile Ife.The Chairman of IYV, Mr. Tajudeen Oladimeji, who made the position of the group known at a press conference in Osogbo on Friday said the Ooni of Ife, Oba Okunade Sijuwade, was also against the planned privatisation of the centre. The youths who said that the entire people of Osun State were against the plan to turn the agency into aprivately owned one appealed to President Goodluck Jonathan to rescind his decision on this.According to him, the FG’s move to implement the recommendation for the privatisation of NACETEM as contained in the Oronsanye report will render majority of the 258 workers at the centre jobless. The youths added that the plan would have negative effect on the technological development of the nation. They argued that with the privatisation of the centre, there would be no institution saddled with the responsibility of making researches which would assist the government to formulate good policies for the much needed technological breakthroughs for the nation.Oladimeji stated that rather than privatising the institution, the FG should fund the centre properly to make it more efficient in meeting up with its mandate of engaging in policy research, design and evaluation for sustainable development.
