We won’t compromise peace, security – Jonathan

President Goodluck Jonathan on Friday in Asaba, Delta State, vowed that his government would not again compromise the security and unity of the country.Jonathan said this at the palace of the Asagba of Asaba, Prof. Chike Edozien, while on a courtesy call.Jonathan was in Asaba to meet with several stakeholders as part of his consultations for his re-election.The President, who was accompanied by the Governor of Delta State, Dr. Emmanuel Uduaghan and other prominent Nigerians, said his administration would always do what was best for Nigeria.“I want to re-assure you that as a party, we will do our best to bring peace and security to the country, and fast-track economic development in all parts of the country,” he said.He said his return to power would enable him reposition the country positively amongst the comity of nations.Recalling the state of tertiary education when he assumed office, Jonathan said on assumption of office,12 states did not have a federal university, which he said he had to correct.He said, “We have tarred over 25,000 kilometres of the 36,000 Federal Roads and we promise to complete the remaining ones and open up more arterial roads when re-elected.“The implementation of the Nigerian content law in the oil industry has improved the participation of Nigerians in the industry and the implementation of our Cabotage Law with Nigerians now owning shipsand more Nigerians have been employed in the shipping industry.“We also saw the need to establish Maritime University for high-powered man-power development in the Maritime Sector; we are moving the country forward.“We are not resting on our oars in concluding the privatisation of the power sector as we believe that to improve the small and medium enterprise sector, power is very important.“We believe that by next year, we would have concluded 100 per cent privatisation of the power sector, itwill take a life of its own with epileptic power supply becoming a thing of the past.He added that over 90 per cent of narrow gauge rails have been completed in the country.The President thanked the Asagba of Asaba and other royal fathers for their support for his administration assuring that he would not disappoint them.Uduaghan said Jonathan was delivering on his promises to Nigerians, noting that Delta State was a great beneficiary of the restructuring of the power sector by Jonathan’s administration.The Asagba of Asaba, Obi Chike Edozien, who prayed for the President, called for the re-election of Jonathan so that he can implement the recommendations of the National Conference.Edozien said his people of the Anioma extraction would give their 100 per cent votes to the president, stressing that they were delighted with the good work he has been doing in the last six years.
