The Ataoja of Osogbo, Oba Jimoh Olanipekun, has called on Nigerians to imbibe the virtue of political tolerance as the nation is preparing for the general elections holding in February 2015.According to a statement made available to our correspondent in Osogbo on Saturday, the monarch made this appeal while addressing the people of the town at his palace just before the commencement of the 2014 Oroki Day.The monarch said that since everybody could not belong to the same political party, there was the need for politicians and their followers to tolerate the views of others to ensure a peaceful coexistence.He also called on the indigenes of the town to pray for restoration and sustenance of peace in the troubled parts of the country, saying the crisis in the North-East should be quickly resolved in the interest of every Nigerian.He said, “I commend the good people of Osogbo for being law abiding and for being good hosts to everybody living in our town.“I want everyone of us to continue to be law abiding and to imbibe political tolerance. All of us cannot belong to the same political party, and since this is not possible, we have to learn how to live in peace with those who do not share the same political belief with us.”While commending the administration of Governor Rauf Aregbesola for transformation of Osogbo from a “glorified local government headquarters into a befitting state capital,” the monarch appealed to the people of the state to continue to support his government to spur him to work harder for the development of the state.He called on the people of Osogbo to unite and work together to develop the town and to make it the best in the country.
