Remain alert, FG tells security agencies

The Federal Government has asked security agencies in the country to remain alert in order to forestall any possible security breach as the New Year approaches.Coordinator of the National Information Centre and Director-General of the National Orientation Agency,Mr. Mike Omeri, conveyed the message in a statement by his Special Assistant, Dave Akoji, in Abuja, on Monday.Omeri commended Nigerian security agencies for what he described as their high alertness which contributed to ensuring a hitch-free Christmas celebration in the country. The NOA boss said the seriousness, with which security agencies handled intelligence reports and issued security tips and early warning signals to Nigerians during the period, contributed immensely to the violence-free celebrations. This, he said, was also instrumental to forestalling the breakdown of security in the country during the Christmas festivities. He urged security agencies to sustain the security alertness and also called on civilians to continue supporting the security agencies, noting that with continued cooperation between civilians and the armed forces, the security challenges of the country would soon be completely overcome.Omeri urged citizens, in the light of the approaching New Year celebrations, to remain vigilant, report suspicious persons and objects to security agencies and discountenance organisations with unclear motives.
